Sightseeing Around The Coast

Experience the natural beauty of the Central Coast and Australia  with some bush and beach walking. Just 700 meters  from bells at killcare is the Bouddi National Park. This park has a series of small, beautiful beaches beneath forests, steep hills and cliffs. In the eastern part of the park, Maitland Bay is at the heart of the 300 ha Marine Extension, one of the first in NSW, where all marine life is protected and it is also the location where the sailing ship the 'Maitland' ran aground in the late 1800's.

Sporting Activities

The Central Coast of NSW offers a variety of water activities and water sports. From fishing at nearby Wagstaffe to kayaking the many inland waterways and surfing or swimming, the choice is yours.

Several fishing charter companies offer cruises around the ocean waterways of the Central Coast offering reef fishing and game fishing.

Nearby to Killcare are an assortment of tourism activities such as surfing, yachting, boating, beach or rock fishing & bush walking. Kayaking can also be arranged and further up the coast lake aquatic activities are available. Brisbane water cruises are another popular tourist activity for a relaxing and insightful tour on the waterways. Horse riding and golf are also available nearby.

Maitland Bay

Maitland Bay was originally known to Europeans as the Boat Harbour. In 1898 the 880-ton paddle steamer Maitland, seeking shelter in Broken Bay from gale-force winds ran aground on dangerous rocks. The ship became swamped with water from the swells & drifted during the night, hitting submerged rocks off Bouddi Point.  It became wedged on a rock ledge and began to break up. 27 crew died in the attempts to reach the beach with a line to secure the position and facilitate access to the shore. If you walk around the bay and clamber carefully out on to the slippery rock ledge (only in the right water conditions, of course) off Bouddi Point you can walk over to the ship's boiler. Other remnants are a short distance away.

Exploring the waterways of Brisbane Waters & Broken Bay and the nearby Hawkesbury River can be a great way to unwind during your holiday on the Central Coast. The Wagstaffe  ferry services has a regular route between Palm Beach and Wagstaffe. Or take a sail (skippered, or 'bareboat charter' for the already expert seamen) on one of Hardys Bay Yacht Charters new sailing boats.

With a number of National Parks and reserves in the area there are plenty of walks and trails on the Central Coast. The Bouddi National Park  has dozens of bush walks ranging from easy to difficult. We supply our guests with a complimentary "Bouddi Walks" map documenting all the known trails in the Park.
